Alcohol for health?
Absolutely!

By Jeffrey the Barak
Published July 2001

Okay so thousands of recovering alcoholics will read this title and recoil in horror as they smoke another fifty cigarettes and try to keep their hands from shaking. But for the majority of us who aren’t cursed with the addict gene, it has to be said that a small amount of alcohol consumed regularly can be beneficial to one’s overall health.

That’s where Red Deer Herbs and their Livations product line come in. I first discovered this company the easy way. They advertised in the health section of this magazine! Curiosity led me to ask the opinion of a Chinese doctor friend of mine, and she confirmed that indeed for thousands of years, oriental doctors have used alcohol as a medium to extract the maximum benefits from herbs that have been known to contain healing properties.

So what about Livations? Customers may securely purchase seven formulas online, each formulated to address a specific wellness concern. The site lists the seven main health concerns and gives a total and honest breakdown of the ingredients of each formula. Livations also sells the hardware required, which is basically a starter kit containing an extraction bottle, a serving flask and a shot glass, along with one bag of herbs.

The user can select his or her favorite spirit from the liquor store or market and infuse the herbs to make the tonic. It works with any spirit, Gin, Vodka, Bourbon or whatever you like. Blends of herbs have been selected to target seven main concerns. The seven blends are called:

  • Creative Link
  • Stress Release
  • Amour
  • Women’s Prerogative
  • Chi Man
  • Mental
  • Dreamland

(Sounds like a horse race, doesn’t it?)

Livations are alcohol extractions of formulas that have been traditionally extracted with water. The medicinal benefits of alcohol alone (e.g. improving LDL/HDL cholesterol ratio, reducing risk of heart disease), when used in controlled dosages (no more than one drink daily), are well acknowledged by health professionals and organizations.

The benefits of alcohol as an herbal solvent are three-fold: it is an effective medium to administer medicine, as it quickly enters the bloodstream and increases the flow of the circulatory system; its greater yields provide higher potency of active ingredients, and it acts to preserve the quality of the extractions for extended periods.

But isn’t alcohol evil? Doesn’t it kill people every day? Yes, if people drink enough to get drunk and then drive, fight and jump off roofs the way drunks do. Yes if people drink too much and destroy their livers. But one drink a day is probably better for your overall health than no drinks a day, unless you are an alcoholic.

Due to the obvious risk factors of the over-ingestion of alcohol, doctors are generally reluctant to encourage its use, despite its benefits in moderate dosages. The effects of alcohol also vary greatly from person to person. Therefore potential users of Livations formulas must consider their personal susceptibility to irresponsible drinking before considering their use.

As the publisher of the-vu, I must admit that I receive revenues for providing not only advertising space for Livations, but also web design services, but truth is truth is doctor confirmed truth, and I wouldn't promote imaginary health benefits from frivolous products. I didn't have to write this article, and I don't have to have that jar of Livations Mental formula on my kitchen table!

This stuff is very good for you and it’s cheap! You can’t say more than that to recommend a health product!
