Six Decades of Scooting

By Jeffrey the Barak. Towards the end of this ever-expanding article I have added edits updating to this year, but the article was first published in 2015 under the original title “Half a Century of Scooting”. Edits are ongoing, so this article is like a blog in itself. Written in 2015: I may have a… Read More Six Decades of Scooting

Ped Number Five, The Return Of The KickPed

By Jeffrey the Barak. I’ve been through a lot of scooters over the decades, at least nineteen kick scooters and five electrics. I usually buy new scooters, but this month, as I found myself wanting a 5th Ped-style scooter, I determined that the last new one may have already been manufactured by the current owners… Read More Ped Number Five, The Return Of The KickPed

KickPed and Know-Ped Family Reunion

By Jeffrey the Barak. A search for the word scooter on the-vu.com will reveal my passion and obsession for this type of vehicle. I much prefer scooters to bicycles, even though I have to admit I won’t be tackling a hundred mile charity ride on one. I have this year reviewed the KickPed, an amazing… Read More KickPed and Know-Ped Family Reunion

My road to the KickPed

By Jeffrey the Barak. Most kick scooter riders and potential kick scooter buyers are thousands of miles from being able to stroll into a certain New York City bike shop called NYCeWheels, but thanks to the Internet anyone is able to choose to buy the scooter that I have personally chosen as my current favorite… Read More My road to the KickPed

      @Kevin,

      This is just a magazine. We don’t sell scooters here. You should use a search engine to try to locate a vendor.

    Has anyone tried a seated scooter? I have a Voyager seated scooter, big mistake, it’s like scooting a sack of spuds, surely the supporting leg is used in the propelling even with a knee scooter, but how’s it work on a seat?

      @Malcolm

      Scooting while seated is extremely inefficient. This device is intended as a mobility aid to enable those with leg injuries to slowly move around while seated on a saddle. It is not so much a vehicle for recreational transportation. It is more of an alternative to a walking frame.

    Thanks for the review, I have a KickPed and I love it. They shipped it to me in Switzerland. I ride it down a big bumpy hill to get to the train – it looks so tough, it turns heads. I am 6’5 and 100kg+ and the KickPed is totally up to the challenge !!

    I’ve been scooting all over Manhattan for 30 years, most of them on a Xootr Mg. After a while, I got tired of the handlebars constantly slipping down the shaft and bought a Keefler scooter from NYCeWheels. I LOVED that scooter until one day the double stem that held the handlebars just spontaneously split in half. No bump precipitated it – just out of the blue – CRACK! I went flying and that was it for my beloved scooter. Out of fear of it happening again, I bought another Xootr Mg. But the love of scooting died a little with that broken Keefler. Well today -because of your amazing reviews, I purchased a KnowPed. I am hoping to reignite my scootering passion with the hope that this little guy is smoother and less noisy than that darn Xootr. I wish I liked the Xootr more. Their customer service is incredible!! But my body feels like it goes into traction every time I take it out for a spin. New York City is just not forgiving enough and I’m hoping the Goped wheels will soften the blow. Thank you so much for your informative articles. I feel lucky to have stumbled across your blog, discovering a co-traveler on the wonderful road of city scootering.
